How I Got Here

Doug Dye Websites is my platform, and this is “How I Got Here.” I am a conservatory trained musician, and I made a good living as a fulltime professional musician for 20 years. It was during this period that I discovered web design. I learned web design by building my first website for the band I was in at the time. I became fascinated by the process and I worked on it a LOT. At the time, the local newspaper had a feature called Website Of The Week. Imagine my surprise, when my very first website was featured in the newspaper as the winner that week. Within a month I had my first job as a web designer.

After about a year and a half of part-time, freelance work, I joined forces with a group of friends to establish Clockworks Media. Our vision centered around creating interactive CDs, which were in high demand at the time. As Clockworks Media evolved, it gave birth to Richmond Media, a web design company. In this role, I not only crafted websites but also learned about brochure creation, video production, and the art of search engine optimization (SEO).

I left the company 10 years later, which turned out to be a great move. Make It Loud Design And Digital Marketing, an Atlanta-based company with whom I had previously collaborated, extended a job offer that felt like I was attending Web Design University. Collaborating alongside a talented team of professionals, we produce from 50 to 60 websites every year, almost all of them designed by me. The invaluable skills and knowledge I gained during this period fostered a lasting loyalty and admiration towards my colleagues at Make It Loud.

Web design blends my expertise in assembling a band and orchestrating a recording session. Just as in music, the process begins by carefully selecting the ideal components (musicians) that will serve the greater production. When you go into a Recording Studio, you use all of those parts to create the whole. That’s very similar to building a great website.

I have developed over 200 websites for Make It Loud. My portfolio encompasses a wide range of industries, serving businesses, sports teams, online stores, publishers, landscapers, charities, and religious organizations.
