A Better Website Starts With Understanding Your Business

Before I start designing, I want to understand what you do, who your customers are, what sets you apart—and what you want your website to accomplish. Some clients come to me knowing exactly what they want. Others simply know their current website isn’t working anymore. Either is fine.

With 20 years of professional web design experience and hundreds of websites behind me, I can help you determine what you need, organize the project and turn it into a website that looks professional, works beautifully and represents your business well.

A WEBSITE DESIGNED FOR YOU

Your Business Isn’t a Template

There are plenty of ways to get a website today. You can buy a template, use a do-it-yourself website builder or have AI generate one in a few minutes.

But none of those things knows your business. I approach each website individually. I look at your services, customers, competitors, existing marketing, photography and brand—and then determine how all of those pieces should come together online. The goal isn’t simply to make something attractive. It’s to create a website that looks like your business, communicates clearly and makes it easy for customers to take the next step.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

More Than Web Design

A successful website involves much more than arranging words and pictures on a page.
Depending on your project, I can handle:

  • Custom WordPress website design
  • Responsive mobile and tablet layouts
  • Website structure and navigation
  • Content organization and page development
  • Image selection, editing and optimization
  • Custom AI-assisted imagery when needed
  • Contact and lead-generation forms
  • Photo galleries and portfolios
  • Appointment and scheduling integration
  • E-commerce and online payments
  • Maps and service-area information
  • Reviews and testimonials
  • Social media integration
  • Basic on-page SEO
  • Website security and backups
  • Ongoing maintenance and support

You don’t have to determine all of this before contacting me. That’s part of my job.
Tell me what you’re trying to accomplish and I’ll help determine what the website needs.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

From Conversation to Completion

I try to keep the process straightforward.

  • We talk.
I learn about your business, your customers, your existing website if you have one, and what you’d like to accomplish.
  • I develop the homepage first, to establish the overall look, content and organization of the site.
  • I build the website.
I create the pages, develop the visual design, prepare images and content, and make everything work together.
  • You review it.
You’ll be able to see the website as it develops and give me your feedback. We refine it until we’re happy with it.
  • We launch.
Once everything is approved, I take care of getting the finished website live.

You’re involved throughout the process—but you don’t have to become a web designer to get through it.

CONTENT & IMAGERY

What If You Don’t Have Everything You Need?
No Problem.

One of the biggest obstacles to getting a new website built is content. Clients often have some good photographs, some old copy, a logo and a general idea of what they want—but not a neat folder containing everything needed to build an entire website.

I can work with what you have. I can edit and improve existing photography, help organize and develop written content, and create new visual assets when something is missing.

I also use AI as part of my creative toolkit—not to automatically generate your website, but to help create highly specific imagery and content that would otherwise be difficult or expensive to produce.

RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN

Your Customers Aren’t All Sitting at Desks

Your website needs to work just as well on a phone as it does on a 27-inch monitor. Every site I build is designed and tested for desktop, tablet and mobile displays. That means more than simply shrinking the desktop page.

Typography, spacing, navigation, images, buttons, forms and page layouts all need to remain easy to use on smaller screens. And more than likely, more than half of your site visitors wll be on mobile devices.

For a local business, mobile usability is particularly important. A potential customer may be standing somewhere with a phone in one hand looking for your services, your hours, your address or a way to contact you.

Don’t make them work for it.

EXPERIENCE

There’s a Lot You Learn After a Few Hundred Websites

I’ve been designing websites professionally for approximately 20 years and I am typically completing around 50 website projects a year. Over that time, I’ve built websites for professional practices, restaurants, retailers, transportation companies, contractors, automotive businesses, publishers, nonprofits, associations and many others.

Some have been straightforward five-page business websites. Others have involved hundreds of pages, online stores, scheduling systems, custom forms, galleries, databases and third-party integrations.

And I’ve repaired and rebuilt my share of websites that weren’t working very well.

That experience means I’m usually not learning how to solve a problem on your project. Chances are, I’ve encountered something similar before.
